I was wondering about lighting for my 20L frag tank, I have lots of SPS and some softies/LPS corals, but I need a good light for my frag tank. I want to use HQI metal halides, but its seems I will have heat issues associated with that lighting scheme. So I was looking torwards alternatives, right now I have 6X25W NO fluorescents over the 20L. Any ideas?

Go T5s, brighter & runs more cool. RC members are suggesting Sunlight Supply Tek Lights.

I have a round prop tank and I have zoos and lps in there and run 175watt 14k metal halide pendant. Working good so far. Zoos are growing very quickly and the lps colors look great.

I have a 60g agrimaster/rubbermaid tub for my frags. Use a single 175w MH over it - dim on the ends, but that's where I put mushrooms/other lower light corals. Quite happy with it.

I'm currently running a 250w ReefLux 12k over my 20g frag tank. While it sounds like alot of light my frags love it. I'm actually contemplating the addition of a 24" T5 lamp to fill in and reduce the MH photoperiod.

clnreef, you can use the HQI bulbs, but just keep it high off the water and run a fan over the water surface to keep things cool
it will take away the heat from the bulb and make your water evaporate more, thus cooling the tank, so keep an eye on your salinity

i run a 15 gallon frag tank and have a 70w MH with 2x18w PCS....
Go MH for faster growth and better coloration

Wow, so many replies! Thanks everybody. The fan thing might work out for now till summer comes along (20L is in my garage).....it gets like over 100 here in Grand Junction in the summer.
