I have a blue hippo tang that is constipated. He looks like he's going to blow. I cant catch him. What can I do? You can see it hanging out. I am not sure how long it's been. I'm guessing mabey 5-6 days now. I don't think he's going to make it if he's like this much longer. :( If anyone has seen this or knows what to do please let me know.

Thanks,
Jason ;)

I have a yellow tang that had a wad of chaeto hanging from his butt for over a week. He finally passed it and was fine. I would leave him alone to work things out by himself.

Ok... Thanks for the response. The good thing is he's still eating.

How long have you had the fish? Some internal infections will cause constipation.

I have had him for about 1 1/2 yrs.
Someone told me to dose with epson salt. They said 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons in the display tank:confused: I am afraid to do that. I don't want to f$#@ every thing up. Has anyone heard of this?

I think I'm just going to pour some Exlax in and have him call me in the morning:lol:

I've heard that feeding shelled green peas will solve the problem..

Ill second the shelled peas.
Use'd commonly in freshwater, But I dont see why it shouldnt work for a saltwater fish.

Epson salt will not hurt your tank and it is a laxative.

Cool I will try it tonight. Should I target feed him? Or is it ok for the other fish to eat also?

Target feed him, but it won't hurt the other fish, it's just vegetable matter. The reason people say peas (I too have tried it in FW) is because of the high fiber content. Aquarium metamucil! Just be careful not to overfeed the tank, the uneaten stuff pollutes and you don't need that much.
