Recently my snowflake eel tested his gils out of water. I had housed him in a 10gal tank while cleaning my main tank. He hadn't attempted escape had him in there for a week. And i know that eels are notorious for escapeing uncovered tanks.

It was a good thing that i couldn't sleep cause i woke up to check on my inhabitants. I found him against the wall and his body was not slimy. He must have been out of the water for a few hrs i'd say. He looked pretty dried up and felt tacky.

I immediately grabbed him and he jerked showing signs of life. I tossed him into the tank and he started swimming around. He is still alive day 2 but for how long. He is more pale than usual. Was being out of the water to much stress for him will he recover.

Anyone have any interesting stories of carpet surfing eels and having them survive for many months years after.

A friend of mine told me a story about an eel that seemed to like carpet surfing. He came in and the eel was totally dried no slime coat at all, he literally peeled the eel off the floor (said it looked dead) and decided to put him back in the tank and after a couple of min the eel started breating real heavy, looking really stressed (wonder why  ) but was back to normal in a few days.

That's all I have. Luckily my Snowflake hasn't tried anything yet. My tank is covered except a few small spots where filter and HOB skimmer is attached.

The first snowflake eel I had a few years ago got out of the tank one night before I went to bed. Just before I turned the light out, I noticed our dog wasn't at her usually spot at the foot of the bed. I went out to the living room where the tank was and found the eel on the floor in front of the tank, with the dog looking at the eel from a few feet away. I grabbed the eel and threw it back into the tank. I next morning I noticed a few teeth marks on the sides of the eel. Luckily none of them punctured the skin. It appeared our dog tried to eat the eel. Our dog is a husky, that eats most small animals. I suspect the eel got a few licks in of its own:)

i am sure everyone is sick of my reef moray story.
we had one in the store for forever and anytime i opened is top to feed him or clean the tank, he jumped out! even with a spotter it was ineviedable.
he must have jumped over 100 times before he finally got a home, but i was glad when he left
