Hello.
I'm thinking of building an inwall tank. I'mwondering, how high should it be?

I was estimating that the bottom would be 3' off the ground.
Too high? too low?

Hi Whirley,

I built mine so the bottom of the tank is 42" off the ground. I am only 5'9" so I have to use a step stool anyway. I figured what is the difference between 2 steps or 3? I am in Granger also, let me know if you want to stop by and check it out. I have it filling with water right now.

42" of the ground. Hrmm....

I was planning on doing 36", since my two girls would be able to see it better. Btw, the tank that I'm planning on buying is 24" tall. (65 g breeder).

At my eye level, (I'm 5'7") I would see the top of the tank.

Now I'm thinking of moving it up a bit....perhaps build a bench for the girls to sit/stand on.

My tank is about 36 I think, but I would much rather it be 42 to 46" would be my choice. Maybe you should buy the setup that guy in Portage has forsale, and build from that? Just a thought.

I put mine at 42 and its about 12" to high. When I sit or lie on the couch I cant fully enjoy. I thought eye level was much nicer: when yiour standing yes but when sitting no. ask yourself this; how long do you stand in front of yuor tank vs. sitting? the advantage to tthe higher tank is sump room, i have plenty of romm for it. I just started building mine last night and erected two of the 3 walls. It's 8'x8' inside my garage (2-car). One wall will display my 75g and the another will display my 225g, and the 3rd will be a 60 inch doorway with accordian doors. I'm also trying to decide on the height for the tanks. Both, I think should be at the same level despite the difference in tank size.

I had this: I put 1 centered next to the other one. I really liked it. traded in the 120&30 for a 240

Mine is also 42" high. Thought about my little one as well but I have a couch sitting right infront of the tank. So much for the "No standing on the couch" speach.

mines not an in wall, but rather a half wall between my kitchen and living room. i put it a 27"(it's 26 high) and can see everything when i'm sitting anywhere in the room. plus i don't need to stand on anything to reach the bottom of the tank. i figured that more often than not i'm gonna be sitting when i'm enjoying my tank. when i started i had it up at 42" but after trying the view at different vantage points i rebuilt it 3 times lowering it each time.

So Whirley,

What ever did you decide to do with the height?
