I am in the process of finishing the plumbing for my 220 gallon tank. I currently have a 90 gallon set up with about 60 Lbs of live rock and a variety of soft corals, no fish yet . My 90 gallon has been set up for 5 years and I want to expand to have a mixed tank of softies, SPS and some fish.

What would be the best way to start cycling and adding rock to my new tank? Should I buy new rock and place in the large tank and start over, waitng for the large tank to become stable and then add the rock and corals form the 90? Should I buy new base rock and place my 60Lb into the new tank with it and start the cycle, leaving the coarals in the 90 until the tank has cycled?

In either of these senarios should I have the fuge tank full and running? At what point is the fuge tank put in line with the system?

Any info is greatly appreciated

Jim

you can move the stuff from the 90 over or buy new rock and cure it in the new tank. I would move the 90 over and use the 90 to cure some new rock, and slowly add it to. but either way is fine.

a fuge can be put in whenever you like, though it won't really be needed until you start getting elevated nitrates and phospates, assuming you will be growing macro-algae in it.

So, if I start the Fuge when I start to cure the rock in the large tank will the amonia spike fom the large tank kill the macro algea in the fuge ?
