I just came across an ebay auction for a light that sounds to good to be true, and need opinions. The claim is it is a 65watt compact flourescent that gives off light equivelent to that of a 500watt halide. If this is for real I will buy, but wanted some opinions from knowledgable people. Thanks for all the help.

LoL, never.
MH are MHs and provide EXCELLENT LIGHt for all reef inhabitance, sometimes too much.
That 65 defiantely cant do that!
It's a 65W compact fluorescent with a funky design (and not one that makes it any better than a regular 65W for lighting a rectangular fish tank IMHO). It may well be the equivalent of 500W of regular incandescent, but I am "sceptical" about the 500W of halides claim (I think it springs from ignorance + the first claim myself).

It also said it came with light filters in which could be used to change color temperature up to 12000k.

I bought one a year ago and it over heated and burnt out after only 2 weeks. The color of the light was also crappy. I wouldnt use one for anything other than maybe a fuge.
