I am trying to see what everyone is keeping the temp at in there reefs.

Right now I am keeping mine at 77. I have a 1/4hp chiller. It turns on at 79. I would like to cut down on the amount of time it runs. I keep hearing mixed opinions about the correct temp. During the day when my MH's are on the chiller runs for about 1 1/2 hr to cool it down to 77. Two hours later it kicks back on. My house is kept at 76.

My question is what would be a good temp to keep my tank? I have a mixed reef mostly soft corals with some stony frags.

Please ring in to tell me what you keep your temp at.

Thanks guys.

No Chiller but fans in canopy and over sump when running halides.

Thanks for the replies.
I think I'm going to raise the temp to 79-80. I need to see how high the temp goes to without the chiller. Because if... let's say my temp goes up to 83... my chiller will probleby run the same amount of time... right? Because it still has to cool the water 2 degrees, and no mater what takes 1 ½ hrs to do. So I don’t know what to do.

If only I could keep my temp at 80 w/o the chiller. That's what I have to try to do.

I think 77 might be to cold. That's what my LFS told me to keep it at.

I run at 78 without MH, and about 80.5 with MH on. No fans or chiller and only a 13gal sump. Planning on increasing the sump to 27 gal and adding fans before the summer (this will be my first summer with MH's).

74-81F that's a heck of a temp range. hopefully you don't swing that much in one day. that would be incredibly stressful on corals.

That is my seasonal temp range. The daily temp change is around 1 degree. Currently my tank is around 75 - 76.
