jeffbrig, how long have you had your anemone? I love the bubbles! :)

jeffbrig

Only about a month. It's a split that I recently picked up from another RC member. It comes from a prolific familiy of splitters, and they all seem to show good bubbles in captivity.

Unfortunately, after I posted above, I looked in my tank and found that 1 of my splits apparently decided to get his arms chopped off in a Tunze last night. :(

The foot/stalk is intact, but completed deflated, and I have no idea if it can recover from that severe an injury. I'm moving what's left to my QT, and we'll see what it does. I'm just thankful that the split occurred before this episode. The other half is still doing well.

My Sebae.

I've had it for a long time, since it was small, and feed it two large raw shrimp per week. It has remained in the same spot for over a year. It was originally under 200w vho and is now under 350mh. In the picture it measures 14-15 inches in diameter. I imagine it would be near 20 if it had room to spread out more.

Pandora,

It is about 3 1/2-4" across. I don't know much about them. I asked Eric Borneman as it is my understanding that this particular clone originated from some live rock that he received about ten(?) years ago. They are very pretty and he says that they do not bother other tank inhabitants too much.

If you have any more info on them, let me know.

Thanks.

Garrett.

gastone, it may not be the same after all, then. Mine are smaller and stay smaller, and they do bother the inhabitants... they sting the bottoms of corals as they grow (but not as fast spreading as aiptasia). I have never been able to find out the name (they are not a type of majano or flower anemone), haven't found any pics anywhere...

Probably not the same as yours, which sound larger and less invasive.

AHBrit, could you explain a little more about your anemone it almost likes like some green star polyp I doubt it is though

reefpimp#1
02/19/2006, 08:40 AM
smcnally, You cut it in half? You can do that? How did you cut it across the mouth, like from corner of mouth to corner, or likr nose to chin?

smcnally
02/19/2006, 08:47 AM
Yes, you can slice them in half. We had Anthony Calfo as a guest at one of our local reef club meetings and he showed us how. Basically you get a VERY sharp sterile blade. Put the anemone out of water on a sterile cutting surface and lay it out flat. Stick the blade in its mouth and cut out to one end. spin it around and finish the cut across the other side. The anemone will literally curl up and pinch its cut ends together and look lika a smaller version of itself in about 15 minutes. After about 2 weeks, they are fully healed and will start taking food again. Also, you want to make sure your tank water is very clean when you put it back in to try to avoid infection.

so you cut it from the CORNER of its mouth out then the other side

smcnally
02/19/2006, 09:02 AM
Yup, you stick the blade right in the opening of the mouth and slice through it and out to the edge. Just like cutting a pie...just in half and not in 8 pieces ;)
