I just noticed that this one polyp stalk on my sun coral has a black area on it...what the heck is it and how concerned should I be?

It is only on one polyp stalk and and it extends from down the shaft to a little over the 'crown' area.

Should I try to cut off the black area?
Has anyone seen this on their sun coral?

Please Help!
Thanks!

I didn't have that problem, but my sun coral came with a tiny mollusk imbedded in it's flesh. It eventually worked it's way out. Hope your problem turns out as well as mine did.

1 of my suns has something similar. i believe it was some sort of obnoxious macro algae trying to take over the rock. but so far that individual polyp is fine & eats like a pig. i went over the sun rock with tweezers & tweezed out anything that wasn't part of the sun's polyps. it's been fine now for months. does your polyp with the spot eat?

Yes that polyp does eat. :D

Good to hear your polyps came out just fine...hopefully mine is allright, might try to tweezer it like you did (but kinda hoping the problem will cure itself ...anyone else seen this?

If that polyp is eating than I would not worry, I had the same thing and I just fed them and used a Turkey baster to keep it clean as possible and it grew back over the spot.
Here is a pic
