IME: dead shrooms simply melt away to nothing. They shrivel up very tightly then within a day, there is nothing left.
I have had some detatch and float off, but they usually re-attach someplace new, and a new shroom grows off the old one's left over foot.

What are yours doing that you might wonder if they are dead/dying?

If the shroom is there, its alive (might be on it's way out though).

i traded a pesky emerald crab for a single shroom at the lfs. it was on a big ugly peice of lr, so i cut/peeled it off and super glued it to another peice of lr. it has been in my tank for a day now, and it hasn't opened up at all, but its deffinently still there (about an inch in diameter)

Give it some more time.

unless you cut some of the rock off with it, don't be surprised if it moves or just dies.
