I got this orange yuma a week ago from the lfs. First off I bought it and it was shriveled. He claimed he just got it in earlier that day. So I bought it against my better judgement. I just got excited because I dont see them very often plus the disc is purple. Anyway, at first I put in the sand and it started to shrivel up. So called him and he said try moving it up in the tank, since the lfs had mh lights. So I tried, now after 2 days of being in the middle of the tank something is coming out of the mouth.

Here is a pic.

I would take him down to the sand like the other one. Orange yumas are very sensitive to bright light. They do much better IMO lower in the tank.
I keep most of my ricordia both florida and yumas close to the bottom of my tank, lower flow and lower light.

I know, thats why I had it in the sand to begin with. And he wasn't doing good.

Any update on your Yuma? Curious only becasue I have a similar issue with my Pink Yuma. Arrived OK but has slowly been shrinking. I have it on the sand of my 12G nano with only 2X24W of lighting.

madequity,

It died. After a few more days, it turned white, and started to decay. It went out with the trash.

Yah, I didn't really know what to do. So it sat there, I tried moving it around. Under a overhang, on the bottom, middle, high. Nothing worked.

Hey can I join your club? I know it doesn't carry the best priviledges but I am a sadist so what the heck.

I also have the dreaded fading going on. Actually all shrooms in that tank are pooping out on me, but that's another post. I have a purple and teal yuma that bleached two weeks ago and has not improved. It got worse when I put it in shade. Got it online so don't know what it was under.

One thing I've heard is you shouldn't buy one that just came in. Let them get acclimated to the LFS water, idealy a month. But we all know, you can't wait that long because someone will buy it while your waiting patiently. Also, the FS won't hold it since they don't want it to die on them.

I've noticed that the yumas that are thriving in my tank were at the LFS for at minimum 2 weeks.

The one that died on me was there for less then one day.

What I've been doing is working with a local farmer and getting aquacultured yumas.

Yeah, also the more they get moved around, the more stressed they get. The ones that I saw recover weren't too far gone to begin with, and were just left alone in the shade.
