I've recently heard a rumor of Frogspawns hosting Clownfish????

Is this True because it may be a solution to my problem, I know I can succesfully keep a frogspawn in my 10 gal nano, as well as a clown!

thanks

True. But it is up to the clown if they want to be hosted by it.

The clownfish will live in several different corals, hammers, frogspawn, leather corals, certain hairy mushrooms. I've witnessed it many times over the years. The only drawback is that the clown(s) can bother a coral so much that they will refuse to open fully and eventually die.LOL

Clowns will go into various corals but as mentioned above it is up to the individual clown. Another issue to consider is that the clown may actually damage the coral - its presence may cause the coral to stay closed. I have had clowns pair with frogspawn, gonipora, and brain corals.

Here is a female ocellaris in a frogspawn. The pair seems to love it and will actually "jump" out of the water when take their home out to frag it. They do get little white spots on them from time to time and I believe it is an irritation/sting from the frogspawn.

Well, I guess that didn't work. At least you can see it if you want to.

wow, that is kind of amazing. I love clownfish and was very upset that my tank was to small to keep an anemone, and I really didn't want to keep a clown in my nano unless it had a host. Is there any tricks to finding the right clownfish??

It has been my experience that ocellaris will find something to host in regardless of what is in the tank. They will host a power head, a clam, a clay pot....whatever. I believe they will pick something like frogspawn or hammer or other anemone-like coral if it is available. I had one host in xenia for a while but it all died off and I sold it.

There was a thread a while ago in this forrum about "the strangest things clowns will host" ... So I guess what i'm saying is clowns can and will host on anything... But just because they can I dont believe they will ... I've had a frogspawn and a pair of clowns in one of my tanks for over a year and I can't say that i've ever noticed the clowns even looking twice .... But I did have a friend who had a 210 and a huge pearl bubble in which his two percs hosted .....

BTW ...I love the pics on this thread
