I would think not, enless mabye you get the really dark stuff, but either way Its a pain to put on without air bubbles, I know people who have tried on their cars. I just finished painting the back of my tank today with Rust-Oleum High Performance Enamel Oil-Basd Flat Black paint and it looks great (pic below) It took 2 coats, and didn't bother my fish at all, jut buy a little foam roller, so you don't get brush strokes. It soo much better then my old plastic background.

They also sell it in Latex (water based). I test painted a piece of glass yesterday in semi gloss black latex and it looks good. After the second coat you don't see brushmarks at all.

5 % limo tint would.
Or you can get a colored piece of acrylic at a glass shop pretty cheap. That way you can change the color later if you want.
That's what I use.

My husband put limo tint on the back of my 210 and it is black no bubbles, and looks great. Easier than painting and removable.

Im about to paint my new tank....I think im going to give this tint a try...I like the idea of changing colors after a while...is there a type of tint that works better and what darkness level to get?
cheers!

My only problem with backgrounds is I always seem to get water between the background, and the tank, and when it dries it looks bad, I assume I would have the same problem with the acrylic sheets, thats why I went with paint, I think it was easy it took mabye 10-15min (not counting drying time).
