Is it normal for coraline to just flake away for no reason? I never scrape the back of my tank and over the past couple of days I have noticed (2 occasions) coraline algae flaking off. Calcium is 410, Alk 10, ph 8.0. Is this normal? The green is all that I noticed falling off. What little biot of pink and purple I have on the glass is still there.

check your magnesium levels this can be a common proplem with some reef tanks every one checks there calcium and Alk but the magnesium is left out because it can usually be replenished with waterchanges. this is just my opinion.

All the coralline that had grown on the walls of my overflow started falling when it got too thick. The surface was just too smooth for it to grab on. Since then I either use fine sand paper or rub acetone to remove the shine of any plastic surface I want it to grab on. On glass that will be a difficult one to rough.
