I have been a Tropic Marin user for a long time, but have not tried their recently introduced Pro Reef salt. Is anyone using this, and what are your opinions?

I've been using Pro Reef for about three months..... Great stuff... mixes very quickly..... but I don't think it's worth the money......

Enjoy.....:D

I tested it and personally I feel is a good salt but expensive without being better than Kent or Reef Crystals and just a little more Calcium and Magnesium than IO.

i've used pro reef for about a year now and reg TM for 4yrs. i've used just about every other salt. I've never had as stable chemistry as i have had with TM. It may measure up or slightly diff on paper. but its real world results are incredible.

My corals seem to really like the TM pro reef salt. They perk right up after a water change.

Thanks for the replies so far. I may be better sticking to what I am currently using, unless I can find a good deal on a large bucket of Pro Reef.

Compare to Kent at $39.95 for a 200 gal or $8.99 for a 50 gal bag. I use 25 to 50 gal a week so the difference in cost pile up for me.

I am very pleased with the results... so far :D

geeeeeeeeeez

nice work, but i think you missed your calling as a nasa tech.

whats custom aquatic charge for shipping on those?

i checked drs, and it would be just $15 for 5 buckets. thats just $3 a keg. not too shabby

That is an excellent deal on shipping. I think Premium charges about $10.00 per bucket

I buy mine from SaltyCritter. I pay $12 a bucket for shipping and usually get 1-2 little things to go with it. Its one of the few things I dont buy from Premium but I really like the guys at Salty critters.

I'm on my 3rd bucket and so far I like the salt. I dont have to add any additives to a fresh batch and it mixes clean/fast. My coralline grows like mad with this salt. In my tests tho it does contain some P04... If it wasnt for the P04 I think it would be the perfect salt.

treg,

have you tested the water before adding salt for the po4?

has this been the case with "every" bucket?

thanks

I have.
I'm using a nice Spectrapure ro/di system with dual di's and the Deltec/DD/Merck P04 test kit... undetectable in the fresh water. almost .03 in the fresh ASW.

I do use Rowaphos so I'm a little less concerned...

Thats an incredible deal from Salty Critter..... They only charge $8 shipping to New Jersey. WOW.......:eek1:

And I was paying $90 for 200 pounds at the LFS.... I thought buying mail order would not gain me much due to excess shipping..... I'm wondering if they made a mistake......

If not.... I buy from them from now on......:D
