View Full Version : Snails flip upright in BB more than sand?

I've switched over to a BB - from a beautiful tank that crashed a while ago and just didn't want to deal with the sand mess anymore.

Anyway - I have this stupid lunar wrasse that like to peck at the snails. He basically knocks them off the glass and they of course land up-side-down. However, they seem to be able to right themselves back up at night by clinging onto the starboard/cutting board. If it were sand, I seem to remember them not having much luck if they fell in the sand before.

Anyone else notice this? I know they're alive cuz I count them at night.

Very true, it is hard to grab onto enough sand particles to right yourself ;) . I am not sure if turbos can (don't have any), but I know astreas do it all day in my tank.

Yeah, I always get a kick out of watching those astreas that "don't have a righting reflex" turn over in my barebottomed tank.

BTW, old rule of thumb.....if you can count your snails, you don't have nearly enough. :D

Righting my snails has become a daily routine, astreas and turbos
Ceriths seem OK
Just another reason I'm thinking of going BB
