I did for a while. I think it was the larger of the non-controllable models, it was too much for my 125, but I'm not an SPS guy. I have nothing bad to say about them.

I have two of the "small" size without controller in my 125. It's on the brink of being too much, but pointed at each other and with good placement, my LPS and softies are thriving along with the SPS.

I upgraded to one in my 4ft tank because of the increase of flow they offer, powerheads only push water in one directions, whereas the propellor style of the tunze stream draws water from the whole tank areas and pushes it out in different directions..

with the added benefit of pulses, and a handy controller add on allowing you to control these pulses.. also they have a feeding time button, a nifty device that allows you to stall the stream for 5 mins while u feed the fish.

I have two Tunze 6100 Streams on a multi controller, and just picked up two Tunze 6060s to put in the back of the rockwork. I love that they use so little power, and if you prepare for it, you can plug them into a UPS battery backup to keep circulation in the tank for several hours if the power goes out. A UPS will last for a while based on how much wattage the item pulls. Lower watt pumps (the 6060 pulls 11w) will last a long time on a decent UPS.

Where did you get yours?

I have one of the older Tunzes which I have used for years, but have seen the Streams in action. They do get it done! Another biggie is customer service. I have had a couple of minoir problems with mine in the past, sent it in for repair and it was back on my door step three days later!

I have a 6100 (haven't bought a controller yet)...
IF I had the money I'd buy a second one and a multicontroller...
Great units, low power- I wish they came with a 4 suction cup holder so I wouldn't have to buy the magnet holder... Other than that very pleased.

bulky but very pleased, especially cause i live in S Cali. Given the money they save me, Im able to make my money back in the long run, from 60 bucks a month to 50 which is 10 dollars a month 120 a year, whoo hoo. Thats the only way i can compinsate for the cost of them

I got the UPS at CompUSA for $99. It is an APC 1500. The first Tunze I bought was a Turbelle powerhead, which I later converted into a Stream by changing the impellar and cover, and using the better power supply. I had to buy a new driver though. This repaired one of two 6100s that came with my tank. Roger at Tunze helped get them up and running, after I mailed them to him for troubleshooting. He was very helpful.

The 6060s were just up for sale a few days ago on the DFWMAS message board, so I got them as well. I know they'll come in handy one way or another. Each one pulls 11w of power and moves 1600gph. I'm going to put one in the back of my rockwork for sure, just haven't done so yet.

I have a 6080 and a Tunzee wavebox on my 180 sps tank and IMO nothing else compares. As for the magnet holders for the price they are well worth it, unlike suction cups you never have to worry about them loosing grip causing a mess in your tank.

I have a 6080 on a magnet and I want to get a second 6080 and the rock holder to hide it. 2 6080's only use 30w of power compare that 2 4 maxijet 1200's which is not even equal to one 6080's flow rate.

I was wondering where everyone places their Streams pumps for the best circulation in their tanks. I currently have one in each corner and they cross each other. They are also at different heights in each corner. There are on a old wavemaker I purchase many years ago called "Ocean Motion".

Don't be cheap - get the magnet holder. The Tunze comes with a cheap holder. I would hate to see 3000+ gph loose in a tank.

I think that there are two stlyles of magnet holders, old and new. The new ones allow for a few more degrees of off- center aiming. You could probably check in the tunze forum for details. The magnet holders are well worth it as the plastic clips are designed for a "euro" type tank top, not Nort American. Other than that, they're great!!

I used to complain about the prices until I got some . Now I have lots of Tunze pumps and other things.

I have the eletrconically controllable 6000 and a single controller. I like it except I think the pump switching feature of the controller is kind of useless. it lets you switch from one speed setting to another per an interval. But even at max interval it's only about 10 seconds between speeds. So you can't have it slow for a minute and then fast for a minte. You can alternate between the modes no slower than about 10 seconds.

The indicator markings around the dials don't enumerate any kind of value, they just have a marking that increases in height. So *** does it mean? And the indicators on the dials stop at 50% of the dials rotational range. So is the end of the markings full power? Or is the end of the dials rotation full power? And the dials themselves are so cheap. They feel like think plastic that will snap off at any moment. IMO, the pumps are great, but the controller, (single controller at least), is a piece of junk. The ONLy feature I use is the food timer.

So I give the pumps 2 thumbs up and the single controller 2 thumbs down. Unless someone can explain to me how to use it.

Thanks
Josh

On my 600gal I am going to be running 6 Tunzes (2x6200s and 4x6100s)... I have 2x6100s on my 92gal Corner Bow and I love them... I agree about the magnets, well worth the extra...

Has anyone owned or seen in action both the tunze stream and the maxi-stream modded maxi jets? Do they compare?

how are everyones streams placed in their tank? if they are in the back corners facing the front glass, how does the rear get any flow?

funkyman

I've got (2) 6000's and a controller for my 120. I know it's way overkill, but I plan on having a much larger tank in the future so I just bit the bullet now. I had the same philosophy when I bought my skimmer.

Being that I have a southdown sandbed, quite a few rics that get moody when they're pushed around too much, along with the flow they put out, I only have the pulse up to 30%. Any thing above that whips the coral around too much and keeps sand suspended in the tank. I'm not complaining. I already knew it'd be too much when I bought them.

I have them angled from each back corner so the flows from each cross if they're both on at the same time. I'll post a pic later. They're definitely a great product if you can get by the intial kick in the pants $$$.

I have my Tunzes hidden behind some tinted glass partitions in the center of the tank facing out to the front and sides...

I placed mine near the top so that it agitates the surface and then my returns are directed at my corals.

I will have 6x Tunzes (2x6200s and 4x6100s) - 3 on each side of the overflow... I will have 4 total pointing towards the front of the tank (each one slightly angled)... and then I will have one pointing out each side... I am also thinking about adding 2x Wavyseaplus+ (http://www.wavysea.com/wavyseaplus.html) with some 6100s attached to the back corners via the euro-bracing that will rotate back and forth on a 90deg radius.

I've got four 6100's connected to a 7095 controller in my 96x48x30 tank. Since the tank is viewable on two sides the pumps are mounted two at each end with the magnet mounts. They are about 8-10" below the waterline and still create lots of swirling and rippling on the surface. I had to turn them down a bit to keep from blowing some of the frags in the middle of the tank over. I'm very happy with them overall!

I just bought 8x6200 to replace my 4 close loops with 4 sequence 5800 gph pumps. I still prefer the close loops for versatility of set up and the very very low maintenance. I always said that the streams put out a ton of flow, bu they are huge, bulky, and not very pleasing to the eye. Now that I have them here, I have another complain about them even though I ahve not even set them up yet: I wished the cord that goes from the pump to the round heavy piece outside had a quick disconnect in it. That way I could drill a hole in the eurobracing of my tank to pass the cords through and make them much less visible.

Their availability to be put on a UPS like melv said is very attractive for power outtages, especially if you live in an area that will get lots of it yearly like I do.

Naga, since you saw it at MACNA, you saw a prototype. Comparing it to the final Tunze product is an unfair comparison. I'm running a beta model on my tank now, and the final version is nicer than what I have now.

Since I've got two 6100s on a multicontroller and the VorTech, I feel I can speak for the comparison a little better, and say that without trying to offend you. The VorTech is 'new' technology as regards to running a propellar via magnets through the glass wall of the tank, and in doing so, I'm quite pleased. I like how easy it is to install and relocate. Having a few on one tank could be amazing, especially since the controller will be able to talk to 10 of them. Give it time, and I have a feeling more people will be able to add their experiences - good or bad.

i have 6100's, so there may be some difference, but the metal boxes open open and there is a molex connector which you can unhook and thus pass the cord through small holes. I would think the 6200s are similiar.
