Hello RC,
Just wanted to start a thread about my first SaltWater tank. I've read so much on this site that I think its made my head explode :) Anyhow here is the info. And hopefully my picture shows up.

Tank - 75g Perfecto Glass
Lights - 330watts VHO , 2 URI Aquasuns, 1 URI Super Actinic.
Stand and Hood - I made them both.
Skimmer - AquaC Remora Pro
Filter - Fluval 404
Heater - 250watt Jaeger
Power Head - Currently just 2 MaxiJet 600's
Rock - 50lbs Base Rock/ 30lbs Live Rock
Sand - ~2inch Base.

Thats should cover most of the important stuff. Here is a picture hopefully.

I do have a quick question though. I added the live rock to be what will help cycle the tank. I got the rock from ThatFishPlace. I picked it up and it was only out for about an hour and a half. So probably not much die off. Should I still add something like a raw shrimp to help up the ammonia or will the rock have sufficient die off that will spark the cycle? Any questions or comments are welcome.

Thanks,
Jeff

The liverock will start the cycle for you. Looks good and I like the canopy and stand. :D

The best part about that spot is that behind that wall is where my hot water heater and sump pump is located. So I have my RO/DI unit in there and make all my water there. Plus I can always drain the tank for water changes right into the sump. I'll be putting my Sump/Refuge in there whenever I get one.

Thanks, The stand and hood were fun to make. Only thing I hated was Staining. I really hate staining. Plus being winter I had to do it inside. Stunk up the house.

Nice build! Might want to bump the power heads from the 600's to the 1200's though. I had 600's in my 46 and didn't get enough flow, went for a closed loop.

I'm definately planning a closed loop. I'll probably start working on that next.

Got some updates on the tank. I didn't like my aquascaping so I moved some rocks around. I think it looks better for what I have. I also turned on the lights for this picture.

That looks very nice with the lights on and the rocks rearranged. Also, very nice job with the stand and canopy. Good going.

Thanks everyone. I'll try and keep things updated as time goes on. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions.

Hello all, Little update on the tank. Its been 11 days now since cycle started and I believe its going well. Had a small spike of ammonia and nitrites started to rise. Trites are at zero now and so are my ammonia readings. Trates are at 5 ppm I believe and PH has been a steady 8.3 So I'm feeling good. I'm going to do a 20% water change this week. See if I can get those Nitrates down lower.

Few Questions.

First - I have these small dots (size of the tip of a pen) on the glass that look like they have little arms sticking out from them. They don't move just stay there. Sometimes they look pink to me so I thought maybe it was corraline algae but I have no idea. Anyone got a clue?

Second - I'm planning on a closed loop design and I started designing the manifold but I"m undecided on a return pump. I know on Melev's site he used a mag for his but I've seen where they are usually for submerged use not external. Anyone have any good recomendations? I'm looking for flow in the range of Mag 7.

Thanks,
Jeff
