Can I plug it in a power strip or does it have to be connected to the wall?

I have mine plugged into the power strip... as long as the power strip has a ground prong and is plugged into an outlet with a grounded prong plug, it should provide a path to ground.

The ground prong is the third prong on the plug, correct?

I would do a search on ground probes. I recall a rather lengthly discussion and explanation of how in some cases, they can do more harm than good. I recall that you need to be sure your plug is GFCI... (i think) my 2 cents...

not sure about that I do know that they sometimes cause a GFCI to trip. so be aware of that.
