Hi Detritovore ,
yes I am actually this spring I was going for a 720gl but due to a lack of space :mad:I will be installing a 300gl instead.Still trying change my better halfs mind and convince her that she doesnt need a tea room so I can place my tank(720) there instead, with two nice leather chairs to kick back and look at the tank.....
I think its a better idea at least the room will be well used unlike the tea room in our present house.
How do you guys feel that H&S compares with Deltec skimmer " performance" I think that there quality are both good but would like to see a side by side performance comparison. I see that H&S skimmers are relatively new on the sean and havent had time to catch on but seem to be a strong contender. Pricing also appears to be more reasonable, and I know that they compare there selves to Mercedas Benz. ( now in bed with Delmer) justifing the price, but as my "quote" keeps haunting me Im compelled to keep investigating to the sum of the crutch..
Maybe both companys will do a show down..Now that would make great reading and some real advertizement for both wether which was to over shadow the other. From what I have been seeing I think it would be close and maybe the pricing would be the only deciding factor. PS I would gladly pay for a superior unit if justified. Heck i just payed 18k for a 1967 original motor for a resturation job so 2k isnt much in comparison.

I have 2 H&S skimmers a A200-2x1260 and a A110-F2000. I have the 2x1260 for a 225gal. reef I should be setting up in the next couple of months. The A110 I got for curing LR and will be used on a QT when needed after that. I may cure the rock w/ the 2x1260 and run the A110 on my 58 instead but what ever I will do I'll get some action shots and post them here in the H&S/Fins Reef forum. We should have a thread dedicated to action shots : ). Another thing I am excited about is I had a dedicated drain put in my tank to feed the 2x1260, pretty excited to see how that will work out. Anyways thanks for the forum Brian/H&S/Fins Reef
Take Care,
Chad

H&S has been around a LONG time much like Deltec. H&S just does not market as much and is happy with the niche that they have in the markey. Brian at FinsReef has been doing an excellent job in increasing North American awareness of this excellent product. They both have led the market in development of skimmers worldwide. Where do you think all of the American companies copy their ideas from? :)

cool I'm on vaca but I was able to check on my phone. if u take a look at the reefcentral totm and the zeovit totq (quarter) they are both great examples of h&s skimmers big & small.
I've owned a bunch of skimmers and can't wait to get my custom a200 1x1260. I've been running a bubble king and a deltec for a while and am glad to rejoining the club!

H&S started with skimmers about 1992 , first only for selling in his own shop ( saltwaterfishes and so) , but than the market got bigger and bigger.
If i visit him , he always tells me that he can´t produce as much as he can sell.
It´s only a small company, about 5 people.

as a deltec user, i can tell you that it is a great skimmer. but, IMO, H&S is just as good. sure, there are minor differences, but the pump and pinwheel are essentially the same. plus, they've both got great customer service and good reputation. the prices are pretty close too. as moonpod says, in the end, it all comes down to: "do you prefer grey or black?" :D

exo, I don't think its a matter of whether or not Fliger liked either units (BK, Deltec) or not, but to feed his addiction he must continue to purchase high $$$$$ skimmers......:D:D
In fact, over the last year, fliger has spent more money on skimmers than I have on BOTH of my entire set-ups:p
Well ! I guess that makes him a first hand expert on the subject of which one has better qualities, and quality controle. As noted both the same...now the next head scratcher is a taller unit with one pump or shorter with two..????? which one will do a better job..

It comes down to a little more than black vs gray for me. I really like the 702, its a real beast. But there are two things that I like on H&S/BK skimmers that Deltec doesn't do. I hate the black ABS flange that Deltec uses. Its hard to fine tune the skimmer. Every 1/2" makes a difference for someone like me who likes to tinker. H&S and BK use clear acrylic - its more expensive to make them this way but it makes a big difference for me. I also don't like the ball valve that Deltec uses. I prefer the wedgepipe of H&S/BK. Its easier to make minute adjustments. The BV sticks. Also with the wedgepipe, you just put one hand on it and keep your eye on the water level. Its super easy.
BUT once you get the skimmers dialed in, they're probably the same. I have tested a bunch of Eheims and they pull in the same amount of air. On certain models, you don't even run the Eheims wide open so its irrelevant anyway.
When people ask me which to buy between the two I usually say whichever one is cheaper. On most like models H&S is less expensive but on one or two Deltec is less. Of course I didn't practice what I preach because the 1x1260 is one model that the H&S is more - and it was still worth it for me because I really don't like this BV and flange. I think the customization fee would be about the same from either brand.
Anyway - I love both companies - I have the FR509 and the KM500 and they're some of the best things I've ever bought. But for skimmers I just prefer H&S or BK.

Wow, I had no idea it was that small!!! Thats really cool that they resist the urge to expand. I have seen pictures of H&S skimmers on lots of European and Asian tanks, I figured they were much larger.
