I know it is very big but just pick up one rely cheap. What do you guys think on the light and equipment I will need? Also any idea on the step up with the frags?

What are the dimensions of the tank and how is the top split in two or three space. I think you will want to go with 2-3 metal halides probably 250 watt 10-20k depending whether your goal is a ton of growth or a ton of color. Personally, I like the 14k because you get a little of both. Other than lighting, you really would only need a skimmer and some pumps/powerheads for good flow. A Zoa frag tank is simple and easy.

48x24x25 how can I get the most zoos in a system like that? Eggcrates all over I would assume. Do you think I should go with 400 or 250 in a deep tank like that?

You can get a light diffuser, which most people use, at the hardware store and cut them to the dimensions of the tank and build all kinds of shelving if you want it. Zip ties work well for holding them together. You can use PVC pipes for legs, drill holes and use zip ties to hold the diffuser on. Both lights would work, but I would go with 250s. The 400s would be a lot of light for zoanthids, maybe too much. Plus you can always get the zoanthids closer to the lights with the way you set up your shelving.

Great. should I just go with HQI or mix in other light?

Either way would work, whatever your preference. If you go with a 10k MH you may want actinics for color. PC or VHO would work best. If you go with 14k or 20k, actinics may not be needed.

2x 250w DE 14k lights would be perfect for this setup.

Here is a drawing of how I would set it up if I were you the brackets are supposed to be eggcrate.

BTW consider using cutting board to put your NON trade/sale frags on. This will allow you to easily cut them off without damage to your cutting tool which will allow for less damage to the zoas.

What do you think?

I like the setup. Im getting the tank on Fri.

I was thinking the same thing but maybe do some from the back to front also. Would that give me more area or would it be the same?

good point!

The bleacher idea would work from front to back.

Just make your eggcrate go from one end to the other (48inches). You could do this on the back end of the tank, and if you have enough frags run this along the front end of the tank. Keep in mind that a MH setup will have different light spectrum depending on how far away from the center you go. So.......

Keep your high color, or best frags under center light and your new, or lower light frags at the ends of your tank.

BTW. My drawing was originally setup to be for a side to side comparison but I just got a bit confused.

i'd go with 175 watters or VHO or t5.

there's no reason to go with 250's or 400 watters when you can just use eggcrate to raise everything up to the top 6 inches of the tank. light penetration is not an issue.
