I have just started cycling my new tank 4 days ago. I have LS and LR. I have been seeing many pods crawling around today. They look to be Cirolanid Isopod. I am freaking out because everyone says how bad these are. I need more info on them and how to get rid of them.

Please help, Jeff

Cirolanids are not that common ... make sure your dealing with Cirolanids and not std isopods or amphipods ... some good pics of ciroids in the last Reefkeeping Magazine or you can do a google search for shimeks article on cirolanids.

In the unlucky event that you have legit ciroid problem you have some tough choices .... the conservative choice might lean towards a "do over" or perhaps a prolonged cycle that may mean 2-3 months w/o fish to starve the buggers out.

If I was faced with a ciroid problem during cycle I would simple do a quick tear down/start over - placing any live rock I had in the old tank into a separate container to cure for enough time to starve any ciroids.

As suggested ... make sure you know your pods ... and make sure you have a ciroid problem.

Good luck.

I was just reading some threads that says you will not see theses unless it is dark. I am seeing them in the middle of the day with tank lights on, running aound. Does this mean they are probaly not bad?

Thanks, Jeff

I have a raw shrimp in the tank for cycling, I have seen a few on the shrimp, but more on the rocks. If these were bad would they be all over the shrimp?

I hope these are Sphaeromatid isopods. Don't know for sure, but you don't have to sneak up on them to catch them.
