Wondering if anyone is currently growing any Galaxea (tooth coral) that is fraggable. Let me know by responding or sending a PM.
Thanks!

yup that is galaxia. That looks like a very nice specimen. Any chance that I could get a frag if you are willing to frag?

sorry to confuse........that is not the actual piece...but a photo i found via google images, to verify that we are talking about the right species.
This is the only one I have...I'll try and find a WYSIWYG photo

Mine might be getting to the point of fragging (it is close to outgrowing the ledge it is on). Looks like Alex might have you taken care of dj, so maybe I can get one for you, Brandon?

I'm currently trying to grow some off onto another piece of rock. I can check tonight to see if it's made the jump and is separable. I have a pic around here of the mama. I'll find that, too.

Does anyone have tips for fragging mine? What is the best tool to use?

I have one about the size of a football I would be willing to take a softball sized chunk off of. Would be interested in Trading for SPS's if you have any to frag.
Thanks
Jeff

Say Christina ... Did you ever find out the consensus for the best method of fragging these? Their skeleton feels pretty hard to me.
Mine's on a rock with my clam and I'm going to have to separate the two eventually. So, my choice is to coax the clam off the rock (and I'm very hesitant to do that), break the rock in two (hard because I don't want to remove the clam from the water), see if I can build a dam between them (working so far as long as the galaxea's sweepers don't get any longer), or peel some of the galaxea away from the rock (possible?). Any ideas?

No, I have not yet heard anything. Have not decided if I just want to use a chisel and try to break it, or take a saw to it.
Anyone have a suggestion?

Use a dremmel with a diamond tip/wheel to score a groove in whatever pattern you want to frag the colony. Wear eye protection. Try to score the grooves in between polyps and avoid cutting through polyps. Then, take a chisel/flathead scredriver, stick it inside a groove and wack it with a hammer to frag off the pieces.

Thanks K! Would a clam be okay out of water long enough for that procedure?

Sure. In the wild, clams are often exposed to air for hours during low tides.

Well, a major thanks goes out to dubitup (Alex) for the great Galaxea frag and the hospitality that his family showed my wife and I. I will definitely see you guys on March 26th for the meeting and I just have to say...your daughter is cute as sin! Thanks!
