My tank is starting to get these long red hair algae. I am in the process of converting a reef to FOWLR and I have no fish in the tank at all. I have 200lbs of LR and 3 cleaner shrimp in the tank.
I have no been feeding the tank for the past 3 days except for a few pellets for the shrimp.
what is causing this red hair algae and what can I do to reduce it?
Thanks

Need pictures to identify the type of algae. Almost always it's excess nutrients that cause any algae problem -- they could be in the water, could be bound and stored in the LR, could be in the sand... Need more details, including nitrate and phosphate test results...
