After hearing about Bob's new warehouse, my curiosity got the best of me. Made a road trip to his established store in Milford for the first time. He has some great stuff. Bob's a really decent guy too. He's going to take my over to his warehouse next week to check it out. I guess he's expecting a big supply of frags to arrive some time this week I think. Very coool! And it's time to stock my tank:bounce1:

And I couldn't drive all the way down there from Enfield and not buy something:D So here it is....

All I can say is, it's a good thing I don't live closer to his store or I'd be $ broke $

Nice sun coral. You are aware that it is non-photosynthetic and must be manually fed right? If you know this, please don't take this the wrong way.

Unfortunately I lost mine when the heater malfunctioned. I love the looks of them but I don't know if I can dedicate the time required to properly care for one.

Hey welcome, I live in Enfield also. I own a sun coral also that is growing. Almost ready to frag it if the wife will let me. Just place it in a strong flow area by the bottom, and they will feed themselves. I also add cyclopeeze every other day. Great coral.

shark, just curious, how long have you had the sun coral in the tank. i had one once and it only lasted a bout 3 months and i did try to feed it manually.

I had mine for a year. I bought it off another reefer, wasn't in the greatest condition, some recession. It has sice come back strong . You can train them to open at feeding time like plreef said, I add fish flake, it would sense the food in the water and start to open up, and then about 5-10 minutes later, throw in some cyclopeeze. they are also fully extended at night catching pods, so a fuge on your system is a plus with these corals.

Thanks for the replies. Yep, I know they are non-photo. Fed the snot outta it last night.:D Thing eats like a pig! Woke up this morning around 6:30 (I have a 3yr old) and took a peak at it before the lights came on and it was all opened up. One of the polyps had a pod in its mouth. Coool! My tank isn't hardly stocked cause it's only 6 mos old so there are thousands of pods everywhere. Plan on trying out some phytomax and zoomax in a few weeks when it's better acclimated. And I also have a bar of cyclopeeze in the freezer for it. And a fuge is in the works as I type.;)

I really don't go out much. Having a preschooler and owning my own practice just wears me out. So feeding it isn't a problem cause I'm always home! It's a labor of love.

Look fwd to talking and maybe meeting you guys in the near future. I want to join the CTARS and start going to some of the monthly meetings. (as long as I can find a sitter). My wife works most weekends (hence why I'm always home).

Later,
Scott

Scott,

Mine really loved mysis as well, wouldn't hurt to mix up the diet once in awhile.

Look forward to meeting you,

Mike

What would you suggest. Need some ideas. Fed it some cyclopeeze last night and this is what it looked like.:D
I think it liked it. This is the most it has opened so far.

I don't know if you all know this, but Bob's new store is going to be pretty sweet. He just opened the back room and, even though the tanks are empty, I can tell that it will be awesome once he stocks it. The store itself would be real nice without the back room. I wouldn't make a roadtrip if you're far away until the grand opening sometime in march...I think.

If your spot feeding the sun coral, make sure you don't over do it, and polute the water. New systems can't break down all the nutrients we throw at them. They need to build up. Monitor nitrates and phosphates to keep them under control, or else suffer the green consequences.

I was reading an article here on rc, that a guy has a sun coral and uses what he calls a hat for them. He cuts a 2 liter bottle of soda and puts a few holes in it. Then he shuts off powerheads and puts a tube down to the top opening of the soda bottle and feeds and stirs. found link... http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71310&perpage=25&pagenumber=2
