hammer question?

We got a hammer coral frag yesterday and put it into our tank. About how long will it take to start opening up?

The adjustment period varies a lot. I'd keep it in a dimmer spot for starters, and expect to see it expanding within a week or so.

What bertoni said - especially with MH lighting. You will find it to be a pretty durable coral. Mine has taken/thrived despite some unintended abuse that I have heaped upon it.

well its in a 12g nano with pc's

If it isn't opening within a week, I'd start to worry. If this is your first coral, you could post all your water parameters, and we could see whether there might be an issue there.

nah its not the first, there is a bunch of zoos, star polyps, and xenia in there as well.

If they're happy, I wouldn't worry all that much yet, although a phosphate check might be worthwhile, if the hammer is the only stony coral. Do you run carbon? There could be some allelopathy issues with toxins from the soft corals, I suppose.
