There was a batch that was running .6 meg/l alk which equates to about a little less than 2 dKh. At least according to a few threads I saw.

yeah , i saw that, but other than that, i thought all the other studies for it looked good. i guess right now it may be a risk to buy it in case it is fromt he bad batch

i am curious as to where everyone in that first thread is getting their info from. seems to be an awful lot of heresay with no supporting documentation. just because a rep says something, doesnt make it true, after all, they do want to push the products that they sell or are going to make the most of.

Unfortunately, this is not a rumor, about bad salt from Kent. It was in the buckets with the plastic bag liner, with no o ring in the lid. James Tucker at Exotic Tropicals in Rogers Ark had huge problems (mainly algae growth out of control) in his 7,000 gal show tank and several of his customers had the same problems. Ca out of sight (nearly 500)and alk way low (I think DKH was about 2.2)--when testing newly mixed water. He did not get any good customer service from Kent (last I heard) and has quit carrying any Kent products. Any of you familiar with James or his store know he is on the up-and-up and has made it good with his customers who bought the bad salt from him, but I think he is taking a loss on this from Kent. I would imagine the salt problem is fixed by now but if you want to be sure how to identify the bad batch tubs, you can email James at:

i believe the part about the bad batch. i was curious about the part of the one thread where reps were trying to say that kent was just repackaged reefcrystals, or that coralife was the base for the kent mixture
