I have the Coralife Hang on tank Metal Halide and I want to upgrade the bulb. I like bluer bulbs so Im planning on a 14k and above. I read on the XM 20K that it must be housed in UV proof glass. My fixture has a little piece of glass that covers the bulb but I don't know if it is UV proof. Other than that there is only a reflector. Do you have any recomendations on an HQI bulb that has a blue tint...my coralife bulb is too yellow for my taste. Also not too expensive.

All DE bulbs have a glass sleeve that is made of quartz. Quartz glass does not have any uv-c filtering properties to it, which is why you have that glass shield on there. So any DE bulb you run in there will be just fine as long as you are still running that glass shield.

I would highly recommend taking a look at the Phoenix 14k lamps. They have terrific light output, and are not overwhelmingly blue. HTH!
