ok i've decided to go with the tek light for my 90 gallon, which isn't set up yet. i will start off with FOWLR but soon after, am going to go reef setup. I want a light that i don't have to worry about upgrading later, my tank size is 4' long x 18" deep x 24" high. I'm sure on the tek lights but don't know if i should get the 6x54 or the 8x54 tek light, i was told that the 8x54 is 19" deep and that i would loose some lighting from overhang. would 6x54 be enough for anything down the road, or should i spend the extra 80 bucks and go with the 8x54????

Also, since from the beginning i won't have any corals, can i just run a few lights on the tek light system, i mean, can i only turn one switch one (which will run half of the lights) and only hook up say 2 bulbs instead of the full 3 or 4. What i'm getting at i guess is if there is a missing bulb, will the others still work or do they all have to work per ballast???

I am also setting up a 90 Gallon and would be interested in hearing opinions on the 6*54 or the 8*54 Tek Light.

Thanks Marcom1234,

I have been reading through that thread and have to go grab another cup of coffee.

Very informative thread on T-5!!!

I have the 8x54 tek light and sometimes wish I had opted for the 6x54. I don't keep sps but I have a friend who does well with a 6 bulb tek light over his 90. The biggest benefit IMO to the 8 bulb is that it gives you more color options/bulb combinations to play with. I don't think it's necessary though for practical purposes.
