I already posted this in a different forum but this seams like a more logical place to get an opinion.

It seams to me there is vey little difference between the H&S A200-1260 and the Deltec 851.

Same pump, although it seams we'll never have a definitive answer on to what degree either manufacturer modifies either pump.

Almost identical physical characteristics and overall size.

Slightly different bracing on the H&S, which possibly could play a role, but who's beating up thier skimmer anyway.

Reliable testimonials from users that they both skim great.

From what I can tell, the Deltec is slightly more expensive $35, but does have a built in drain on it's cup, which can be a nice feature if your skimming wet.

Both distributers have good customer service.

Is this really a flip of the coin or does anybody have anything substantial to add that might sway my bubble filled head one way or the other.

i've used both. i'd say they were about the same in terms of skimming performance

In terms of build quality, H&S skimmers in general are built better. This one included.

My vote would be for the H&S

I held back to try to get you some feedback from other users.

There are a few differences to how the Eheim pumps are modified, Deltec will have to answer what is done to their pump, but for the H&S a special impeller cover, and pressure fitting is used along with an impeller that is shaved 2mm for the US Market.
The Eheim pump body is standard on the H&S.

If you wish for a drain, I can add you for you. Generally it is better to just clean the cup more often as sometimes a drain makes us overlook that. The skimmer will perform best when the collection cup is cleaned on a regular basis.

LMK if there is any more specific questions that I can answer.

MGB,

If you have the chance, put your hands on each of these brands. While there is no doubt that Deltec makes a superb skimmer, you might find that all the materials used on H&S skimmers are equal or better. Performance wise, I've heard that they are roughly equal.

John.

Are most H&S models more than Deltec in the UK? I was looking at an Italian etailer website and noticed the same thing. I see a lot of H&S skimmers on Italian tanks (from the internet).

Here in Canada the H&S skimmers are less expensive than the Deltec units, although they have different recommended sizes for tanks they are pretty much similar.

After scrutinizing the two skimmers, I chose H&S over Deltec a year ago due to the construction of H&S in which I found it superior, and then the price difference made it more than appealing.

These two skimmers both work fantastic, but I preferred the H&S for the reasons mentioned above.

I dont know if all H&S skimmers are more expensive than Deltec over here. I only looked at the skimmers with the single Ehiem pump. The Deltec AP851 cost me £380 ($667) the H&S would of cost me $1105.
