Ground Probes

Can anyone justify why a grounding probe should not be used in a tank? Also, if not used, what alternative methods (other than GFCI) can be used to safeguard against getting zapped.

i can't seem to get a definate answer on this for awhile. some people say 1 thing, other say different.

More or less to protect against any current that might make its way into the tank through pumps and other electrical devices.

you need a gfi if you have a probe....if you touch something out of the tank (ie light) and it is leaking electricity and your arm is in the tank you will be a perfect ground, and could electrecture yourself. Personally I use a probe....keep it in the sump. Seems to work fine.

also...older house can we wired bad...this can cause some leaking voltage to actually go through the gound into the tank...so sometimes it actually adds voltage to the tank.

true....mine was doing this....i had to rewire some ****, but after I did we saved on our electric bill :-)
