Mystery worm in my sandbed

Does anyone have a worm that looks like a earthworm that lives in their sandbed? I have a strange creature like this that is about 6 inches long and half as thick as a pencil. It seems to suck on sand particles as it burrows through the sandbed. Does anyone know what this creature is?

If it's segmented like an earthworm then it's a polychaete. I'd have to see a picture to know which one but from your description it's definitely one of the good clean-up guys.
