Hi all, I need help cutting plexi and building my sump, I have asked for help in the past but now I am getting desperate. I am trying to build a sump/refugium for my 46 gallon tank which has been on hold now for too long. I have the plexi and a cutting tool but have not been able to cut it without it breaking and it's starting to cost me a fortune. I really need some help. I am a NJRC member if that makes a difference..... I know fellow club members help members in need.... SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

Tom are you making a complete sump out of acrylic or are you just making baffles to insert into an existing tank?

When I made my own baffles, I used a t-square, regular utility knife and a 2x4. Draw a line through the sheet, then using your t-square score the sheet on both sides with your knife, try to go in as deep as possible on both sides. Finally after making the scores place the 2x4 on the good side(piece your going to use) of the sheet and step on it now pull up quickly on the sheet it will break along the cut marks. Hope it helps.

I have been cutting mine on a table saw for years now. How thick is the glass? I will cut for you and help build, but looks like I am 2 hours away. Do you travel to North NJ? Pompton Plains, 07444

Thanks for the offer Tpomp,
Unfortunately I am disabled and not able to travel very far, and my ride ( the wife ) just had knee surgery on her right knee so getting around is a little tough for me right now. I believe I got 3/8 inch plexi and I bought the scoring cutter. I used a piece of wood as a straight edge scored it several times on both sides but every time I put the wood under the plexi to snap the piece off I wined up breaking it and having to start over. I have 4 pieces now that are garbage I don't know what I am doing wrong..

Mott, I can come down today and cut it for you with my miter saw, or I can bring you a Pro Clear Aquatic Model 75 Wet/Dry system. You just need the over flow for it. Free. Let me know before I make plans for the day. Mike
