I purchase a pre-mixed salt water in 5gal jugs from LFS. Are there any disadvantages to this?

There can be, depending on how well your LFS maintains their purification equipment and if they use good quality or cheap salt mix and how clean they keep their storage tanks. Just run a full battery of tests on the water: ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, alkalinity, calcium and see how they rate?

Gets to be pricey depending on how much you buy. A good RO/DI unit and some bulk salt will eventually save you money in the long run.

And dont forget the back breaking work of lugging buckets of water from the LFS to the car, then from the car to the house...ouch!!! My back would be killing me...

Do your back a favor and buy an RO/DI and mix your salt at home...
