I got a green Mushroom with stripes that has been on a Rock for sometime by itself. today i noticed A very small one next to it. My Question is do mushrooms have for lack of better terms....spores to regenerate more ? I always was under the impression that mushrooms Split to make more. Anyone able to clear this up for me?

They kind of melt over and form a new one.

The whole thing doesn't melt, just off the base underneath a little spot grows off and seperates like a candle drip. The body usually looks great the whole time and you really can't tell it's spreading.

My blue striped shroom currently has about 4 babies under it and it actually lifts itself up so that the young'uns can have some light and flow. Matter of fact, it's reproducing so fast now in this new tank I might have to take that rock out already and chip a few off.

I just noticed today that a ric has a baby at the base. If I remember correctly when my other mushrooms reproduced, the original took some time to recover. must have been new ones at the base, can't remember now.

Yes, I have not been here in a long time, but started reading the threads yesterday. Also have not been to a SEASL meeting this year, not sure why. Wish the meetings were not in the mornings.
Thanks for noticing my absence.
shrooms like to move just like anemones because they are the same in a lot of ways. They are always looking for a better spot and what happens is they like to leave a piece behind that will generate a new one. If you want more just slice them with a razor blade. If interested do a search on techniques.

we used to frag mushrooms by cutting one like a pie and then having several new ones
