Not unless it starts flaking off or turning white.

They stay closed for days at a time sometimes. t's usually nothing to worry about.

Under normal conditions when they close it's to go through a growth spurt. After they open back up and start you should notice them growning atleast an inch in every direction with in a months time.

I'm going on about 3 weeks now of my GSP's just barely sticking a few polyps out. This is a colony bigger than my hand that used to extend and wave beautifully in the current with bright green polyps. After about a month and a half in this new big tank, they are hardly doing anything. I began thinking that maybe my water was "too clean" now, that they were used to more nitrate laden water and were like xenia was supposed to be, happier in dirtier water. However, I was reading a reef article the other day, and I wish I could remember where I saw it, but it was saying that this "dirty water" liking corals thing was a bit of a myth, so I'm not sure what to think now. I know that my nitrates have stayed very low, even with the addition of new fish. Just tested the other day and they were in the 0 - 2 range. I just can't figure what their issue is now otherwise. Looking over at my 10 gal, which has a frag from the same colony in it and is under PC lights and, I guarantee you, considerably dirtier water, and its polyps are extended and waving around.

my flame angle was picking at mine, then they closed up. I saw the tips a day or so later then back in. I wonder if the gsp is smart enough to think it should stay closed till the danger is gone.. as in weeks! Its closed up in the past for atleast a month.

mine was closed all of last week. It opened again on saturday and has been looking good since. GSP is odd, at least its cheaper than others.

I still have a rock with nice matting you can have. When you have extra, just give some to the next guy that's starting out.
