I got a fantastic deal today on 250 pounds of live rock, I sold 100 pounds of it to a local pet store for 2 bucks a pound and kept the other 150 for my 90g tank, that is ordered but not in stock yet.

Right now I have the 150 pounds in 2 rubbermaid containers, with a heater and a powerhead in each, this all I need to keep the rock in good shape until I am ready to put it in my main tank? Do I need anything else? water changes needed, if so how much/often?

thanks!

I've had about 80lbs in a rubbermaid now for about a month with a heater and powerhead...you may or may not notice a good amount of die-off in the bottom...I've been doing weekly WC's and blowing off the rocks every day....

BTW my college roommate was from Holland...

was out of water for about 3 or 4 hours I would guess, was at least wet most of that time, some of it sitting in water from the tank it came from. Was alot of snails attached to it as well, sure they all died though, as long as other sponge, hair looking stuffs (new to this, still do not know what is what).

small world :) Holland is a nice town, I like it here.

i hope your fish store hooks you up now lol. $2 a pound is cheap.

It can be out of water for some hours. It would stay damp anyways.

The salt is at about 1.20, this to low? When you blow off the rock, you just aim the powerhead at the rock and see if the current blows off anything dead? is that all that is involved with blowing it off?

Look up the rock cooking threads here -- with unknown rock such as that I would cook it. Similar to what you're discussing above -- in the dark with powerhead and heater -- with frequent washing until all the detritus falls out of it...

pictures of the rock, the two big ones on top that look like base rock, the other side is all purple like the other ones.
