Hi All,

I was checking out some hydroponics grow lights as a cheaper alternative, and I was wondering if anyone has tried this?

I have an aqualight pro but I need more WPG. Looks like you can get all the way up to 1000watt lights here, either HPS or MH.

Im not trying to press this site, I was just surfing and this is what I found first. Any opinions?

Likely this has been covered but I cant search...

The lights are likely to be way to yellow in color
(low Kelvin ratings)

Good for algae:)

Dude HPS lights give of a redish light. Great for flowering plants but not so good for a reef tank. Stick with MH's they are good for growing and viewing the tank.

Also, you might not want to go a 1000w route. Those suckers put out some major heat.

yeah, 1000 watts is a lot... our iron takes 1200 watts.... sometimes it blows the fuse....

Cool thanks for the replies...

I was thinking more like one of those 250 watt Halide minis for $150 - yeah 1000 watts would probably draw detectives to my place looking for a growing operation!

That clears it up a little, I'll stay clear of the sodium bulbs - thanks again.
