Im going to be ordering a 250Watt MH setup but what bulb should i go with i will be doing clams corals and mainly just fish at first. Which bulb should i go with since it will just be the single MH bulb without supplementing of other bulbs?

Thanks

well in order to have safice lighting for many almost all clams and many corals you want atleast 4 watts per gallon and if you have a 75G tank then you might want to consider something with a little more wattage

With M.H. lighting only,14k would be good spectrum as it fall's between color output of 10k (white) and 20k (blue).Supplementation of other lighting still recommended (perhaps T5/VHO/PC etc.) to be used along with M.H. .

I only have a 28gallon hexagon not a 75

I always dont have enough room in the canopy since the sides of the the hexgon are only 18" across point to point

It really depends on your preference. If you like a mellow bluish color a 14k is great. If you want a more like sun light, white, a 10k is good. I would use a 14 k.

So hamilton is pretty much the best for single bulb setups? you cant get any t-5's or PC's that are 18" can you?

I just found 2 28watt PC ballast and bulbs i might be able to add right next on side to the MH bulb. Ok everyone so go with the 10K on the MH or the actinc on the MH and what on the PC's?

250w metal halide for a 28g might be a bit much. You might be better off with just a 150 or just t5's. Just a thought. Actinic on PC's and 10k on Halides if that is what you chose.

you have to look in the sps section under idol tanks on page 5. there is a freestanding really amazing looking tank. If yours looked like this wow, it is a work of art!

I have a 14K phoenix on a hex the same size. Love it! Beautiful color. No supplementation. Still get good growth too. Had 14K hamilton previously. Prefer the phoenix.

Sorry 'bout that....just did a search...you're right. I thought they did. My bad. Then I'd recommend the hamilton 14K.

I'm sure he means he is putting 2x250 over the 75 since it is a 4' tank. That is more than sufficient lighting for clams and SPS.

If you could only have one fan would you point it in or blowing out?

Blowing in, angled slightly at the water surface. It aids in evaporation which cools the tank better.
