Never done it befor? I am planning to set up a 20G sump for my 75. If i go with 600g/hr overflows what size Mag should I go with? I was thinking Mag 9.5? How do I make sure that the pump and overflows are =?
Thanks,
Chuck

Chuch go on RC's homepage look for the head loss calculator. Fill out the info with the pipe dia, bends and height etc. The 9.5 MAY be too much for that overflow. A Mag 7 may be better. But it all depends on the distance and bends to how much pressure you will lose.

Nice Thanks guys I will check it out now.
Would this be enough of a water excahnge or should I go with a higher or lower GPH over flow?
Thanks again.

Your gonna want to turn over the tank volume at least 10x. Minimum.I am thinking you will want at least 1 ph in there as well. Check out the Seios. Pretty good for the money. I would invest in an Seio 820 (820 gph)and set it to shoot at the front glass and disperse the flow that way or in one corner and fire across the tank.

hey joeski, is it true that seios cannot be used with a wavemaker? i was thinking of getting one, but would put it on a wave maker, i heard they dont start back up.

No Seios can't be used w/ wavemakers. I will ruin them quickly.

I just picked up 2 Seio 620s for my new powerheads I also have 2 Maxijet 900s. Joe are you saying use the 820 to pull the water up from my sump? Not sure how I would plumb that?
Thanks for the tip.

no, he was saying use a sieo as the "at least oen other powerhead"

Now I got it. I was trying to figure out how you could use a Seio for a return pump???........ haha
PS: I thought if you use the seios with a corlife Day-night timer or Wave-maker timer that would work? Although this would reverse every 15 minutes.

On my 90 gal i have 3 Maxijet 1200 on a natural wave timer(fairly cheap and works well.)http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=4793&N=2004+113782 I also have a whisper 5 that adds alot of circulation, pulls detritus out of tank, cleans water with activated carbon and i get some biological benefit. My sump/refugium is loaded with cheato and pulls out tons of phosphate and nitrate out of the water for me. On my sump/refugium i'm using a slow flow and only have a small rio, which is working ok, but is very noisy. With a slow flow you dont have to worry about microbubles and with a refugium you shouldn't have alot of flow blowing everything around. If space is limited id go with a refugium based 20 gal. I set up a small area in the corner with glass about 2/3's high in the tank surrounding the pump, so this way if you lose siphon on the overflow you wont pump the entire 20 gal into your main tank and have a flood. Also you want to make sure the return line from the sump has some type of siphon break in it (a few holes near the end of return line) so if you were to lose power on the pump, you don't get a reverse siphon from the main into the sump.

herpn i used a mag 5 on my 72 bow with one AGA overflow it worked great but if your looking for 600GPH the 7 would probably be better . just put a ball valve on the discharge in case its to much you can slow it down. as for sieos on a wave maker .im doing it now and its not a good thing ! they are lasting just fine but when they start they chatter like crazy i sugest if you do use them do them in very long intervals im doing 20 min off/on just durring the day. im thinking on changing to 2 to 4 hours off/on 24 hours

Thanks for the link. I already have the Corallife Power Center (actually 2) that I just got and plan on using them for lights and powerheads. I plan on going with a 20g Sump/Fuge cause I am limited for space under the tank. A 20 fits fine. I kinda wanted a lot of flow for the sump for water movement. I was going to hook either my MaxiJet 900's up to the wavemaker or the Seios and have them on 15 minute intervals. I was going to go with the hurrican 600 and maybe the Mag 7?
Thanks for the input.

Herpn, I have Seio 2600 and the 1500. They say you can't use them on any kind of wave maker. I had mine hooked up to a wave maker for a while, it worked but I got a great deal of chatter from the pumps when they would try to restart. I stopped using the wave maker seeing the chatter was freaking out some of the fish and the tank was new at the time. I ran it for about three months before stopping. All pumps are still working fine. I'm not sure how the smaller pumps would be.

I read the seio doesn't do well on a wavetimer also..Use the Seio normally and just put the maxijets on a wave timer, that should add some random flow. I'm getting a used seaswirl soon, so thats going on my return line from my sump, just for some more random currents.

Thanks that will work.
