Is this the correct size for a 150w HQI lamp?

HQI lamp holder (http://www.menardsonlinecollections.com/catalog/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441766480&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302024001&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302024000&bmUID=1141676982314)

That socket should not be used with Double-Ended metal halide lamps. That socket is only rated for 250 Volts. It is designed for use with halogen lamps.

ANSI M81 ballast will have an ignition/starting voltage that exceeds that voltage rating. An ANSI M81 ballast is designed to provide at least 4000 Volts but not exceeding 6000 Volts.

The leads also need to be rated for at least 600 Volts.

Hope that helps

Now, I'm not saying that anyone else should do it, but I used a "Regent Halogen Fixture" and use it to hold my 70 (seventy) watt MH lamp. It's an old mod from www.nano-reef.com.

The fixture was for a 300W (or was it 500W?) halogen lamp. I thought that it should hold a 70W MH bulb safely, but I didn't take into consideration the "starting voltage" that PaulErik mentioned.

(been using it for 2 years, on and off (no pun intended))
