I was wondering if anybody runs their fuge lights 24hrs. Also was wondering if their are any benefits or drawbacks to this.
Thanks

I run mine 24/7. Keeps the culerpa from going sexual, reproducing, then ending up in my display. Others run the lighting opposite of the display lighting to help keep the pH up at night as it tends to drop.

There are plant processes which require a dark period. This is the time when the plant really gets to use the stored sugars and grow. From what I understand caulerpa going sexual is more related to lack of nutrients rather than absence of light. Although the two are likely linked. A healthy rapidly growing plant is likely to use more nutrients, and without adequate nutrient additions would ultimately starve, which then leads to the reproduction cycle in caulerpa ( going sexual ) which is a last ditch effort to send offspring to a better environment.
I prefer to feed my fish more :) , and save the electricity.
There are better alternatives for macro than caulerpa which dont go sexual and dont require nutrient additions or 24/7 lighting. Caulerpa also contains toxins which can leach into your tank water even when healthy.
Cheato and gracillaria are better choices IMO.
