hey
robert is working on this school project and he doesn't see my point that a teacher knows anything about the hobby or how broad of a topic it is.i tried suggesting coral fragging or water chemistery. maybe someone not related to him can give him info so he doesn't think mom and dad are picking on him.
and if you have pics you can emails them to me at bmkindig at aol dot com

So his mom and dad aren't picking on him?....about water chemistry?

i could throw a few points that way...1st pointer, unless you have lots of money, stay away from this hobby...and secondly its worth it in the end...

whats the topic of the paper?
obviously its about reef aquariums but what about them
when writing a research paper you always want to assume that the reader dosent know what your talking about. espeacially with this hobby because it is so complex you have to explain everything

this doesnt sound like a college course, so what he can do is is find one topic and choose like 5 different areas of discussion about that topic... i think salt would be a good discussiojn....heres a link, its very intensive

just doing a paper on saltwater fish tanks is pritty broad, you could write a whole book on the subject and many have. obviously you dont have to go into as much detail but papers are usually better if you take one point or subject and drive it home. how long does it have to be?

how about micro algae vs. macro algae...what they need to thrive, effects they have on each other, different pics of each..types of nutrients they need, type of lighting , different types of each..heres a link on macro

just to put my two cents in:
I would stick with something really interesting if he has to do a 20 minute presentation.. Maybe something about the relationship between clownfish and anenomes. Or something about the symbiotic relationship between shrimp gobies and pistol shrimps. That way he could talk about the two separately and then how they work together.
Perhaps on the different types of corals: soft, hard etc. then he could show a lot of pictures during the presentation.
Just suggestions.. Good Luck!

I agree with everybod here... having a subject that says "saltwater fish aquarium" can be big but like others said and specially scissorsfishors suggested the interesting subjects. I'm sure we can help Bubba pick a subject if he wants..
Bubba : do you have a subject yet other than saltwater fish tank?
if not then we can all work together to suggest some other topics.

it's me Bubba
ok...well the topic is coral propagation now and i pretty much have everything at my fingertips now...(get it...the keyboard...ha...ha...yeah, oh well i tried) but seriously my Dad has the book on coral propagation (signed by Anthony Calfo) so that pretty much can be just about the whole project right there. I'll put in other stuff but that is my main info text right there. so now i need to quote the book, paraphrase it, etc. and i also need tro put it all together and also make my presentation. my main issue at the moment is my powerpoint and the pics that go with it. I know Mo has some great pics not only of the corals but he has some good ones from the Calfo Dinner. so Mo i dont know how that gonna work but i wanna see those eventually...the sooner the better. i'm doing a section on LPS, a section on SPS, and a section on softies. im gonna start setting up the powerpoint now so that i can add my info and pics into it as soon as i get them...need to make myself work on my project more... well thanks again to everyone who is helping me to accomplish this project.
