View Full Version : Potential offer for group buy from a top tier wholesaler.

Actually I was thinking of running an idea by my boss.
I was thinking of offering an FVRC group buy from my best wholesaler along with one of my typical stock orders. All FVRC members would be able to order larger sized corals at wholesale cost.
I was thinking of offering this opportunity maybe 4 times a year.
All I would ask for in return is for a carefully cut frag from each mother colony for future cultivation.
This would enable many of you to aquire fairly decent sized corals for about half of what you would pay retail or on any website.
You would have a wide selection to choose from and could request orders for some harder to find corals.
Let me know if you think this is a good idea or are interested.
Cheers,
Spike

Hey Spike, Long time no talk to.
When were you thinking of doing this order? I am going to be picking up my new 72 gallon bow at AA tomorrow (Wednesday). I should have the 120 gal it is replacing down and ready for sale in several weeks. By the beginning of April I should be ready to purchase a few corals to restock. Maybe I'll catch you tomorrow and we can talk. Are you working?

Here's the deal. For several reasons ~ one being the very large size of the lists ~ I can not post them. It is also illegal for me to do so and also against RC policies.
In order for this to work you have to decide what specific corals you are looking for and want to buy.
I will then check the list for pricing. Average prices for a large to show sized coral colony range from 30 to 50 bucks.
jandlms ~ Thanks! I will probably do an order next week or maybe the week after. I really have not worked at the store much yet as I am waiting to get some of my tank parameters to fall in line and then get a good amount of corals in stock to play with.
OK peeps its up to you to decide what you are looking for.
*If you are not happy with the coral after you have seen it ~ you won't have to buy it! You don't need to put any money down either to place a request.
*This offer is for FVRC members only!
Cheers,
Spike

I might be ineterested in a candy cane or some favia. I dont need huge show pieces though. Can we get frags or mid size pieces on this deal?

Since I'm not good at all the names of all the different varieties of corals, is there a web-site that you can recommend that would have pictures and names of some of the corals that could be ordered from this supplier? Or should we just visit a bunch of sites and pick out some names of corals that look cool?

Sounds like a great offer. Will you let us know when this is going to happen so we can get a list to you?
Hopefully I will be able to make the next meeting to talk to you more about this.
www.liveaquaria.com is an RC sponsor and has most commonly available corals on their site.
Bucket, I might have to get with you after we've moved back into town. Is this something that may be possible in the future as well?

Aquabucket, Did they change the name of the store you work at?
Aquabucket

Yes. Its now called Pet Adventure. The owner has broke off ties with the Animal Adenture chain. There have been some positive changes as a result.

I don't see the conflict of interest just yet. You arn't gainfully employeed there yet, your just explaining a deal you know of.
No different than the 210 gallon tanks gooch saw.
Why is it that the system is designed to only hurt the good, and help the bad?
They did the same thing to me. After the double standards, I found it difficult to send them some money.
Jason
I think the conflict of interest is due to RC's policies rather than the store itself. RC has sponors which pay for the privelege of advertising. Offering things for sale on a commercial scale is kind of skirting those policies.
I don't think there's an issue where this is currently at, but posting prices and such would be crossing the line.

Aquabucket, I am looking to pick up a cheep grow out tank for my babies do they carry something there that I can just go in and buy? Not looking for anything fancy some where from 20 - 50 gallons or so.

Petco on the west side stocks a ton of tanks
Yup, I pretty much do it all. Shifted mostly to salt right now since I don't have the time required to raise fish, and corals are much less demanding than thousands of assorted fish fry. :D
