Hi,
I recently ordered 2 buckets of salt from you, among other things. While one made the trip fine the other had a huge piece of the bucket broken out of it. The plastic sack inside was not torn so the salt is ok. Just thought you would want to know how the package arrived.

Mikegray,
Although the solution of Reef Crystals premium sea salt can be used immediately, it is suggested that you aerate the water until it reaches oxygen/carbon dioxide equilibrium before use. This will ensure that the calcium and trace elements in the mixture are completely dissolved into the water. This will make the testing of the calcium more accurate. If we can be of any additional assistance, please feel free to contact our Live Aquaria Department at 1-800-334-3699 or via email at customerservice@liveaquaria.com

well just called and she didnt kno what to do... tried to transfer me to customer service but didnt pick up so she talked to a supervisor and that person said "u may need to add calcium to it blah blah" it made me laugh cause i cant add 300ppm calicoum and 1000 magnesium to get my tank up and after every water change do it again.. ill just have to go buy some new salt and toss this.. i cant use this for a reef tank. the bucket says EXTRA calcium and trace elements so calcium should easily be in the 400's and mag should be 1200-1350 range. but o well. nothing i can do now..

Mike,
I am sorry you are experiencing problems with testing your mix water. When using RO/DI water that has close to zero TDS it is advisable to reconstitute or stabilize the water so that it is suitable for mixing with conventional salt mixes. This can be accomplished with a products such as Osmo Prep Marine http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=4127&Ntt=osmo%20prep&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&pc=1&N=0&Nty=1 . When adding salt mix to distilled or RO/DI water, calcium, magnesium, alkalinity and other elements are often times depleted. Please make sure to add the salt mix slowly so that it dissolves properly and some of the important elements in the mix do not precipitate out of solution causing the batch of water to become cloudy. Furthermore, it is advisable to oxygenate the water 24 hours with an air pump and air stone or power head prior to your water change. From there testing should be preformed with a high quality test kit. Many liquid reagent test kits have a short shelf life causing inaccurate readings. I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Hi Mike,

What kind of garbage can are you using? I had trouble with the calcium in my water when I used the cheap rubbermaid trash cans. Problem went away when I started using a different barrel.
Might be worth a try to mix up a small batch in something else.

It is Reef Crystals you're talking about, isn't it?
