I have Calcium reactor And It seems to be doing Its job my
Calcium is at 450 and my Alkalinty is 11 dkh but my ph is
some what low around 8.0 I think of using Kalkwasser water
to rase the ph is it good idea

It will raise your Ca and Alk as well.

Is your tank getting enough aeration? I'm doing my best to remember Randy's reef chemistry lessons, but that's the first thing I can think of to get the PH up without raising the alkalinity along with it. I know very little about calcium reactors, though.

How do your animals look ? Although the pH is a bit low that's normal using a ca reactor. If the livestock are fine I wouldn't worry too much.

Using a limewater is a nice synergy with a CaCO3/CO2 reactor. One lowers pH by adding excess CO2 to the tank, and the other raises pH by sucking up CO2. :)

Randy,

I've seen this advice often. If I might query, since your running both is the dosage of each half of what they would be running solo.

I don't run a CaCO3/CO2 reactor at all, but those who run both often use the CaCO3/CO2 reactor for the bulk of the calcium and alkalinity, and just use enough limewater to get the pH where they want it. Sometimes that is a lot of limewater, and sometimes not.

The demand for calcium and alkalinity in the tank is dependent on pH. Higher pH gives higher demand. So does higher alkalinity. So the limewater added on top of a CaCO3/CO2 reactor does not usually lead to excessive calcium or alkalinity unless the CaCO3/CO2 reactor alone is overdriving the system. :)

I have a Ca reactor and I also have a 20g rubbermaid tub filled with Kalkwasser. I use a digital timer to dose the Kalkwasser during the dark/night hours; thus keeping a steady pH and also adding a bit of Ca and Alk.
