I bought a flame scallop today, and left the LFS without buying any phytoplankton. Anyway, a friend of mine gave me some (which was refridgeerated) although it says "Best if used by Sept 1, 2005".

Is there a problem if I add this to my tank, or is the plankton dead, or will it have some adverse affects and kill corals/scallop

Thanks
Craig

What kind is it? Is it the already dead kind like Kent's phyto? Or is it live like DT's? Does it smell really bad, like something dead? I might just toss it to be on the safe side.

No point chancing it. Use DTs. It's pricey but worth it. Until you can grow your own.....
