View Full Version : Will adding new live sand cause a mini re-cycle?
In the process of adding a fuge to my tank. Will adding live sand to it cause a re-cycle? Considering sand off the shelf of LFS. Caribsea stuff in bags. This type of stuff.

Most likely not...unless you already have a big bioload but I doubt it since your tank is new.

IMO, Shouldn't be a problem.
For both questions.

I just switched out a 30 gal sump for a 40 gallon sump. I rinsed the old refuge sand in some of the tank water i removed to get rid of some of the crud and moved the sand to the new sump/fuge, and did a 40 gal water change. There was no noticeable difference to any of my water parameters or livestock. If you have the change water at the same temp and salinity as your tank water....should be fine.
