im in the process of setting up a 6-7ft tank for a moderate reef just a few soft corals lps e.t.c with fish as the main attraction..was wondering how many mh is dueable in lumanarc 3 reflectors i was thinking two would be the least i can do with 250w 14k phoenix bulbs they say they cover a 3by3 area so i would believe the 6ft tank would be fine but wondering if im pushing it way to much with a 7ft tank? also what would be better an 84x30x24 or a 72x30x30? thanks

I'd say 30x30 is more accurate, I'd say 3 would be good for either tank.

Depends on how you arrange your corals, no? You might want some 'lower-light' zones for some corals. At that, I would also suggest using the 400watt aquaconnects. Lumenarc3s are for single-ended bulbs and pheonix bulbs are double-ended. This means you should be looking at Aquaconnect bulbs (same spectrum as pheonix, but single end). At that, the 400s would allow you to get away with only 2 or 3 of them across the whole tank. I would go with the 6' tank for looks, but either one would be fine. With the 24" high one, you would simply raise the height of the fixture to cover the extra length since the tank would be shallower anyways.

pheonix are great bulbs...they are only made in double-ended variety, and lumenarc3s are single end only...they two cant go together.

Contact Pacific Garden Supply. I believe you can special order Double Ended Lumenarc III Fixtures.

A few of us have been DIYing our own because they dont...then again...we never checked for 'custom'. Sunlight Supply has a reflector coming out that is supposed to outperform the Lumenarc...called the Lumenmax or something...but its coming out in SE and DE...check their sponsor forum area for more info.
