this is probably the dumbest question ever....

i'm making saltwater for the first time. i only have a 12 gal nanocube and i'm making about 10 gallons now. i bought a 200 gal bucket of Kent salt. how much salt do i need for the 10 gal? 1 cup? 1/2 cup?

thanks,
Dan

A round guess would be 5-7 cups, but I haven't used that salt. Do you have a hydrometer or some other way of measuring SG?

thanks! yeah i have a refractometer. i just wasnt sure where i should start.

it would be nice if it said how much salt volume was in the bucket so i could just calculate it.

thanks again.

The manufacturer's directions are often for water in the 1.022 SG range. Since I target 1.026, their instructions, gallon counts, etc, aren't particularly accurate.

I think what he said to use is about right most of them call for 1/2 cup per gal of water is normally put about 1/2 cup extra per 5 gal because I keep mine aroun 1.026
